Ameen Sayani was born on 21 December 1932 into a Gujarati Muslim Khoja Ismaili family in Bombay (now Mumbai). His parents were Kulsoom and Jan Mohammad Sayani.
He was introduced to All India Radio, Bombay by his brother Hamid Sayani. Ameen. Later, he helped popularise All India Radio in India. Ameen Sayani, with his sonorous voice, his habit of addressing his listeners as his ‘sisters and brothers’ in the very popular radio program ‘Geetmala’ became a firm audience favorite.
Sayani was also a part of various movies throughout the years like Bhoot Bungla, Teen Devian, Boxer, and Qatl. He appeared in all of these movies in the role of an announcer in some event.
He died of a heart attack in a hospital in Mumbai according to his son and only immediate survivor, Rajil. He was 91.
