The launch of Dolby Atmos on Audible, a collection of immersive, cinematic listening experiences in pioneering spatial sound, was announced by Dolby Laboratories and Audible, a leading provider of premium audio storytelling.
As part of the Dolby Atmos collection, actors, writers, directors, sound designers, and other creators demonstrate their extraordinary talents across a wide range of genres, including feature-length multicast productions, soundscapes, live performances, and podcasts.
Over 40 popular Audible Originals, including The Little Mermaid, narrated by Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Marrow, are part of the launch collection. On iOS and Android devices with Dolby Atmos capability, Audible members can stream and download Dolby Atmos titles through the Audible app.
Dolby Atmos allows creators to place sounds in a multidimensional space, pushing the boundaries of audio-only narratives. By adding depth and richness to each audio element, creators can immerse listeners in a more lifelike spatial audio experience that fully engrosses them.
“Our commitment to delivering the best possible experiences to our customers—and to the creators we work with—is central to everything we do at Audible,” explains Rachel Ghiazza, Audible’s Head of US Content, continuing:
“We’re thrilled to collaborate with Dolby to deliver world-class, Dolby Atmos immersive storytelling to our members, and to give creators another powerful tool to create extraordinary audio content with Audible.”
“Dolby Atmos is an innovative audio experience that is empowering creators to showcase their artistic vision at its greatest potential,” according to John Couling, Senior Vice President, Entertainment, Dolby Laboratories. He further says:
“Sound placement can now be used as a new element to draw audiences even closer to their favorite podcasts, audio narratives, and stories with Dolby Atmos. By partnering with Audible, we are bringing incredible immersive sound to one of the world’s leading services and catalogs for audio storytelling.”
Among the Dolby Atmos-enabled titles available on Audible is Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid. The story follows a young mermaid who is willing to give up her life under the sea in exchange for becoming human, narrated by singer-songwriter, actor, and member of Little Mix, Leigh-Anne Pinnock. A Dolby Atmos surround sound experience brings this classic to life like never before.
