ZEE AND LIBAS DISPUTE

Zee Entertainment Enterprises and apparel brand Libas have moved to mediation following a copyright dispute over the use of music in promotional Instagram reels. Zee alleged that Libas used songs from its catalogue, including popular tracks such as Jugraafiya, Lehra Do, Piyu Bole and Uyi Amma, without obtaining the necessary commercial licences. The company argued that while its music is available through Instagram’s library, such access is intended for personal and non-commercial use, and brands must secure separate permissions for promotional content. The Delhi High Court referred the matter to mediation while court proceedings continue. Libas has removed the disputed reels and undertaken not to use Zee’s music catalogue on Instagram until the issue is resolved.
