A Multi-Talented Artist Who Found Strength in Challenges

Chavvi Sodhani is a singer, songwriter, composer, and poet whose musical journey is shaped by resilience and artistic exploration. With a deep passion for Urdu poetry, she brings a unique storytelling essence to her music, blending rich lyricism with evocative melodies.

RAGA2ROCK met up with her at the KOLAB HER MUSIC CAMP 2025, an initiative by Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) and Sony Music Publishing aimed at empowering female music creators through collaboration and mentorship, she worked with diverse artists to create original compositions, further honing her craft.

Her ability to write emotionally charged songs has led to significant recognition, including an international award for Best Music at the Los Angeles Awards for the film ‘Yaman’.

R2R: You’ve explored multiple aspects of music. How did that happen?

Chavvi: There was a time when I developed a vocal issue. It was a scary phase because, as a singer, your voice is everything. But instead of giving up, I started writing and composing. It’s funny how life works—what felt like a setback actually helped me discover new sides of my creativity. Eventually, I recovered and returned to singing, but by then, I had expanded my skills beyond just performing. That experience shaped me into the artist I am today.

R2R: How did your journey as a songwriter begin?

Chavvi: I had written a song and pitched it to JioSaavn’s Artist Originals label. Initially, I wanted another singer to perform it. But when the team heard it, they said, “This song is beautifully written, but you should sing it yourself.” That moment changed everything. They signed me for a couple of years, and I realized that songwriting was just as powerful as singing. Now, I make sure to balance both.

R2R: You won an international award for your music. Tell us about that.

Chavvi
: Yes! I won Best Music in the movie ‘Yaman’ at an awards event in Los Angeles. It was surreal. When you create something, you never really know how far it will go. But receiving recognition on an international level made me realize that Music has no boundaries. That moment gave me confidence that my music can reach beyond just one audience.

R2R: You write Urdu poetry as well. How does that influence your music?

Chavvi: Poetry has always been my first love. I write about my life, emotions, and experiences, and that naturally flows into my music. Lyrics are more than just words—they tell a story, and I make sure every song I create has depth.

R2R: What’s next for you?

Chavvi: More writing, more music, and more exploration. I never want to limit myself—I want to keep growing as an artist, whether it’s through singing, composing, or poetry. My journey so far has taught me that every challenge is an opportunity, and I’m excited to see where this path takes me next.

R2R: How was your experience at the KOLAB HER MUSIC CAMP 2025?

Chavvi: It was an incredible experience! Collaborating with such talented female Music creators from different backgrounds were truly inspiring. The camp provided a platform to experiment with new sounds, exchange ideas, and grow as an artist. It wasn’t just about making music—it was about learning from each other, building meaningful connections, and feeling empowered in a space dedicated to creativity. Initiatives like this are essential in ensuring that more women in music get the recognition and opportunities they deserve.
